You may not know that we carry Istex Plötulopi, also known as Unspun Icelandic. This wonderful fiber is 100% wool that has not been twisted into yarn. It can be knit at a wide range of gauges and produces a wonderfully light and cozy fabric. Once you get used to the gentle touch required, it is easy to deal with because ends can be quickly felted together.
Worked as a single strand, you can use Unspun Icelandic in any pattern calling for DK or worsted weight yarn. Held double it can be used in place of a bulky or on an extra large needle for a super open fabric. The current issue of Knitty includes a cardigan pattern that uses 4 colors at a gauge of 21 sts = 4 ins.
We are using Unspun Icelandic right now in the shawl class that started a couple of weeks ago. The third picture above shows the beautiful shawl they are making. You need to feel it to appreciate how lightweight it is!
