The Welcome Blanket Project

Has this latest craftivism project crossed your radar yet? As the Welcome Blanket website explains,

The Welcome Blanket Project aims to connect people already living in the United States with our country’s new immigrants through stories and handmade blankets, providing both symbolic and literal comfort and warmth.

You can read all of the background and details on their site, and if you decide to make a blanket Northfield Yarn will support you in a variety of ways:
  • We will waive the clinic fee for anyone who would like help with their Welcome Blanket. Clinic happens at the shop on Saturday mornings from 10-12. No sign-up is necessary, just show up with your questions!
  • We are offering a significant discount on a limited number of kits for the knitted Come Together Blanket. The Welcome Blanket Project doesn't require that you use a certain pattern (or that you knit -- crocheters and quilters are encouraged to participate) but the Come Together Blanket is their first suggestion for knitters. (Of course the kit yarn is suitable for other blanket designs, as well.)
  • Bring your project to Summer Club for the camaraderie and moral support of fellow crafters. Summer Club happens on Monday evenings from 5-7 on the deck of the Tavern Lounge through the end of August.
  • You can often find a community of knitters and crocheters at the shop on Saturday mornings, so we invite you to come in then and grab a chair if you like to stitch with company.
