Intro to Drop Spindle: 2 Wednesdays (10/20, 10/27), 5:30-7:30pm
Introduction to Spinning Yarn with a Drop Spindle
Instructor: Theresa Bentz
Dates: 2 Wednesdays: October 20 & 27; 5:30 - 7:30 pm
Are you captivated by images of spinners spinning wool into yarn on a drop spindle or spinning wheel, but feel it would be too difficult to learn? Spend a few hours at Northfield Yarn with Theresa Bentz, a spinner and shepherd from Get Bentz Farm, as you learn the art of spinning yarn on a drop spindle. We will provide spindles to use, as well as the fiber to spin. Fiber is milled at the Bentz Farm mill, and spindles are crafted locally with local wood.
Before the lesson starts, we will discuss the origins of spinning and the importance of textiles to cultures and agriculture. This is a very hands-on class. We will help you as you discover this art and will be available to answer questions you may have.
Skill Level: Beginner
