Introduction to Sock Knitting
Instructor: Cynthia Gilbertson
Dates: 3 Tuesdays (5/17, 5/24, 5/31) @ 5:30pm

This three-session class will teach you to knit a classic, top-down, heel-flap sock. To make it faster and easier, we will be using Regia 6-ply at a gauge of 6.5 stitches per inch, but all of the skills you learn can be applied in the future to a fingering weight sock pattern. The class will be taught on double-pointed needles, but if you prefer another method of knitting a small circumference in the round, you can use that method. The pattern will be provided in class.

Scheduling details: Note that not all classes are the same length. The first & last session are from 5:30-6:30pm; the middle class is from 5:30-7:00pm

Supplies to bring to class:

  • Yarn: 1 ball Regia 6-ply (150g/_410y) or the equivalent (a machine washable yarn that will knit a relatively dense fabric at 6.5 sts/in)
  • One set of dpns size US 3 (3.25mm) or the type of needle required for your preferred method of knitting a small circumference in the round

Homework: None

Skill Level: Advanced beginner/Intermediate. To be successful in this class it would be helpful to have experience with shaping and the ability to distinguish between knit and purl stitches. You do not need to know how to knit a small circumference in the round; this skill will be taught as part of the class.
