Reywa Rose Hat Knit-Along

Thursdays: January 30, February 6 & 13; 6:00-8:00 pm

Come take part in a friendship-themed, flower-inspired knit-along this February! Between January 30 – February 14, we will be making Reywa’s beautiful two-color Rose Hat from their luxurious 100% Yak down Embrace yarn, during 3 Thursday evening Open Stitch sessions.

The hat requires two different colors of yarn, but doesn’t require a full skein of either. We’re making it possible for you to participate as a “Yarn Buddy,” by splitting skeins with another participant, which means you will only pay for 1 skein, but still have the two colors you need for the hat!

While the event is free to participate in, we still need participants to enroll so we can pair buddies and to be eligible for the grand prize. ENROLL HERE or click the classes tab and add the Rose Hat KAL event to your Cart and check out.

Of course, you can take part in the KAL without being a Yarn Buddy (ENROLL HERE) or you can be a Yarn Buddy (Rose Hat Yarn Buddy Form) but not do the knitting in February, or you can order the supplies and not even come to the shop! (See more information about each of these options below).

How to participate as a Yarn Buddy:

  • Fill out the Rose Hat Yarn Buddy Form to indicate your color preference (1st, 2nd, or 3rd choice) for each of the three possible color pairs we’ve chosen for the Yarn Buddy KAL. The Rose Hat Yarn Buddy Form will open in a separate tab or window in your browser. You’ll see examples of each of the color pairs on the sign up form. Signup for the KAL must be done by January 29.
  • After completing the buddy form, return to the classes tab and add the Rose Hat KAL event to your Cart and check out. You will receive email confirmation of your registration. If we have any questions about your form responses, we’ll be in touch.
  • On January 29th, we will match up KAL “buddies” based on color preference and notify you of your color-pairing. You will receive 65% of one color of Embrace and 35% of the other in the color-pairing. Your Yarn Buddy will receive the reverse amount of each color, so you and your Yarn Buddy will be knitting hats of inverse colors.
  • Come into the shop to pick up and pay for your Reywa Fibers Embrace color-pair ($41.50) between January 30-February 14. Copies of the Rose Hat pattern will be provided free to KAL participants. If you are unable to come into the shop to pick up your yarn, please call the shop to discuss shipping options.

 Participating without being a Yarn Buddy:

  • You are welcome to choose your own colors of Embrace for the KAL, if you are purchasing the two colors on your own. You may also use Reywa yarn that you have in your stash. If you are not participating as a Yarn Buddy, you do NOT need to complete the Yarn Buddy sign-up form.

How does the KAL work?

  • Each Thursday during the KAL (January 30, February 6, and February 13), we will provide free help and support for the Rose Hat pattern during our weekly Open Stitch time from 6 – 8 pm. 

What if I can’t come to the shop during Open Stitch?

  • No time to knit in February, or can’t make it to the Thursday Open Stitch times? No problem! You can sign up for the KAL by January 29, pick up your yarn and pattern at the shop by February 14, and create your hat at your own pace. Unfortunately, you’ll miss out on the KAL help and fun of being a part of the group on Thursdays, but you can still make the hat!

What’s in it for me, if I finish my hat?

  • Participants who complete a hat by February 14th are eligible for a special prize drawing! The grand prize includes one skein of Reywa Embrace, a zippered project bag, and a Reywa pattern of their choice ($65 value). Please email a photo of your completed hat to laura@northfieldyarn.com no later than midnight CST on February 14 .

Kelbourne Year of Gifts 2020

We are excited to partner with Kelbourne Woolens on the launch of their 2020 Year of Gifts, featuring a new kit each month with yarn, pattern and notions to complete a small project perfect for gifting (to yourself or someone else!). 

Each month Kelbourne Woolens will release a new design and project kit that features one of the six current yarns in the Kelbourne Woolens collection. The 12 designs will range from hats to socks to home goods. Each project will call for 100 grams of yarn or less. Kits will include the pattern and supplies needed to create the project, as well as notions specific to each project.

Northfield Yarn will receive a limited number of project kits each month, but we don’t find out what the month’s design will be until the month begins, so there will be some mystery throughout the year! Individual patterns will go on sale to the public on Ravelry on the 3rd Tuesday of each month. Project kits, which contain all the supplies, plus a pattern code to download the pattern, will go on sale as soon as we receive them in the shop.

Kits will be available for purchase on an individual or subscription basis.

Kelbourne Woolens, year of hats and year of gifts

Pre-orders are now available for the January Year of Gifts kit to make the Snowdrop Hat, a new two-color pattern featuring one of our favorite KW yarns, Andorra. Snowdrop Hat kits will be available in the shop for pick-up on or after January 21st.

What’s included in the Snowdrop Hat project kit?

  • 1 skein of Andorra in Snow White
  • 1 skein of Andorra in Ink Black
  • 1 custom leather Kelbourne Woolens hat tag
  • 2 Perennial windings (natural and black)
  • Year of Gifts (YOG) logo sticker
  • Postcard with individual pattern download code. The code allows you to download the pattern for FREE after its release on January 21st.

We are also offering a 6-month subscription to the Year of Gifts. Subscribers get early notification of kit releases and may choose their favorite six of the twelve 2020 kits, including the January kit. Pay for five kits and get the sixth free, a $40 savings!

Why purchase a 6-month subscription?

  • Guaranteed a kit for six of the twelve projects. As a subscriber, you will have prepaid for 6 designs of your choice from the Year of Gifts.**
  • Six kits for the price of five! Individual kits will retail for approximately $40, so by purchasing a 6-month subscription you are receiving six kits for the price of five!
  • Early notification of new designs. Each month, you will receive early notification about the design that will be released that month. You will then have the option to take that month’s kit as one of your 6, or wait for the next design to be announced.

What’s included in the project kits?

  • A printed postcard with a free pattern download code for that month’s pattern.
  • Kelbourne Woolens yarn for completing the project.
  • Unique notions that are specific to each project. Notions will vary from month to month, but will include such items as stitch markers, a Kelbourne custom leather tag, woven label, and Soak wool wash.
  • A muslin project bag to hold your project supplies.

How to see what has been revealed so far:
Each month as kits become available for pre-order, they will be added to our online shop. You can see what is included in each month’s kit by clicking on the current months pre-order link (above) or find the list of available kits at the bottom of the subscription page (updated monthly).

NOTE to 6-Month Subscribers: If you have purchased a Kelbourne Woolens Year of Gifts 6-Month Subscription, you do not need to preorder this kit. One will be held for you and you will have the option to take it as a part of your subscription or not.

Did you know that as a Northfield Yarn Annual Club Member, you get 5% off purchases and classes, an annual thank-you gift, free shipping, early access to sales & more? Now is a great time to join, as our memberships begin in January (although new members can join anytime with pro-rated dues). 

If you are a current member or purchase a membership on or before January 25, you are invited to join us on Saturday, January 25 from 4 – 6 pm for our first annual Member Celebration! Members are also welcome to bring guests to the celebration, especially crafty friends and family who might benefit from joining the Annual Club.  Here’s a peek at what we have planned:

  • Reveal and distribution of the 2020 Member Gift (we think you’ll love it!)

Please note that participation in our Frequent Fiber Points program is not the same as being an Annual Club Member.  The Frequent Fiber Program is free to join and allows you to earn points on every yarn purchase at the shop. When you reach 200 points, you receive a $20 off coupon for your next purchase of $50 or more.  It’s a great perk that can be enjoyed by members and non-members. If you purchase an Annual Club Membership, you can ALSO enjoy the long list of members’ benefits, including discounts on purchases and classes.

2019 Northfield Winter Walk

Northfield’s annual Winter Walk takes place on Thursday, December 12 from 5 – 9 pm. Stop by the shop to make an aromatherapy sachet, vote in our holiday ornament contest, sample a delicious No Chewing Allowed truffle (and perhaps purchase a truffle gift box!), and cheer on the shop manager as she rashly attempts to knit a sweater in just four hours.
